Spacious and light decorated in a Bohemian chic style
La Calma is one my all time favourite villas, if I didn't already live in Spain this is where I would holiday!
La Calma is decorated in a Bohemian chic style and feels spacious and light. This charming 5 bedroom villa is set all on one level except for one of the twin air-conditioned bedrooms.
You enter La Calma into a spacious hallway adorned with fabulous original artwork .
Leading off the hallway is the large L shaped lounge & dining room that opens on two sides out into the garden. This lovely room is both tastefully and comfortably furnished and has a TV, SKY TV (no card).
Next to the dining room is the kitchen which is equipped with an electric hob, electric oven, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, coffee machine, washing machine etc. There is also an extra chest freezer in the garage.
Down a hallway you will find the 3 of the 4 air-conditioned bedrooms; the master bedroom overlooks the garden and has a super king size bed and an en suite bathroom with a walk-in shower, separate bath, basin & wc. The second bedroom has twin beds and the third bedroom has a double bed. These two rooms share a bathroom with a shower over the bath, basin & wc. Up a small flight of stairs is the 4th air-conditioned bedroom with twin beds and an ensuite shower room with a shower, wc and sink. Please note this bedroom is open with no door.
In a separate annex, close to the house, is the 5th bedroom with a single bed and an en suite shower room. Please note this room has been designed for a nanny or an au pair and doesn't have A/C, a fan though is provided. This bedroom would suit a teenager who would like his or her own space.
Siesta in the shade or sunbathe by the pool
No matter whether your preference is to cool off in the sea or lounge in the pool Villa Calma caters to all tastes. For those of you that prefer a siesta in the shade there are plentiful sunbeds to place under the shadow of one of the mature trees.
The lovely, large shaded terrace overlooks the pool and at one end has an outdoor dining area and BBQ. At the other end of the terrace is a comfy sofa and chairs for you to relax on ... a perfect spot in which to indulge in a good book.
At the bottom of the garden is a gate giving direct access to the beach, please note there are 8 steps down to the beach area.
Enjoy the light breeze off the sea as you dine alfresco
The spacious terrace has a lovely shaded seating area that overlooks the pool and an outdoor dining table for 8, a lovely area to all sit down & enjoy time together sharing a BBQ'ed lunch. Iberico pork is particularly good here and ribs in BBQ sauce a particular favourite of mine. Fish is also plentiful and fresh, the fish & sea food counter in the supermarket at Carefour has a fabulous choice. The wines of Spain are fantastic and they like to keep the best ones to themselves, what a better way to spend an evening than to sample different Riojas and Cavas.
If cooking is too much like hard work there are many excellent restaurants in the area to try. Casa di mi Abuela (see our restaurant guide) takes pride in the food it serves and the service is second to none. Recently I enjoyed home made empanades followed by a terrific Argentinian steak ... perfection!
Villa Calma truly does benefit from an outstanding location, sited as it is directly on the beach. Your family can enjoy a light breeze off the sea as you dine alfresco off locally caught fresh seafood or even take a stroll out of the garden gate and along the beach while taking in the stunning views across the Mediterranean towards Morocco and the Riff mountains.
